My temporary 6 month contract has ended and my company want to keep me on and have offered me the job role of procurement - which is basically researching and purchasing goods and supplies for the company.

The current person doing it is in charge of the company credit card which i will be doing at some point too. The credit card is in her name although is a company one and only used by the company and all purchases over £250 have to be authorised by the finance manager anyway.

I am in a DMP and have have never been declared bankrupt so am allowed to work in finance - i am not doing the accounts or anything of that much responsibility either.

The thing is...I obviously cannot get a credit card in my own name and obviously i trust myself with the company credit card because i am very honest and would never do anything untoward with someone elses money. I just dont want the responsibilty of being in charge of it and in particular the embarrasment of telling them why i cant have my name on the credit card.

Why they cant have the company name on the card i dont know, maybe they can, the lady who took the card out in the first place has been there since it opened 10 years ago when the company was a lot smaller so maybe thats why its in her name.

Ring the credit card people and explain to them as not all company credit cards carry out individual checks on the holders. I have a company card from HSBC as do all the managers and I do not think we had credit checks against us. Ultimately, the company is liable for the debt and not you so you may be able to get one in your name.

Thanks for this advice, I spoke to our HR department and outrightly told them my credit rating was a bit naff and they have said that its not a problem - as you say the company is liable for it.

Now that you have secured full time work it might be worth looking again at an IVA unless your DMP will leave you debt clear in a relatively short period of time. You could propose it while not cancelling the DMP and only stop making DMP payments after the IVA has been approved.

Unfortunately it is only part time work at the moment (16 hours) and currently only for a fixed 1 year contract. So a bit hesitant to go back into an IVA if after a year i can not sustain it.

I currently pay £165p/m on a DMP for outstanding debts of around £3500 so shouldn't really take that much longer anyway.

It shouldn't take you too long to pay that off assuming all the interest has been frozen. Don't blame you for being wary though. If it's only £3.5k that you owe though an IVA wouldn't be any good anyway.
