Hi,

I am 16 months into my IVA and all has been going well up to now.
My car is in desperate need of repairs.
The MOT is due end of this month and I need 4 new tyres,a few other minor repairs and a new windscreen as it is cracked, (although the insurance will pay most of it, there is a £70 excess).
I estimate all this is going to cost between £500 - £600.
My question is:
Am I allowed to take a payment break?
It would only be for 1 month and then I should be back on track.

Check with your IP. Lots on here about successful payment breaks. With your car can u do any repairs yourself? Could you buy part worn tyres? If not use internet as there are some cheap companies.

I would definitely talk with your IP as a roadworthy car is a must. I've taken a break in the past and added a little on to my monthly payment to catch up but you can also sometimes tag a payment on the end too. x

Thanks for the replies.
I intend to use the internet for tyres as they are cheaper, but unfortunately the tyres on my car are huge, so cost quite a lot anyway. I will look at part worn aswell.
I am more than willing to pay a bit extra each month, I could do some overtime at work to fund this.
I will ring my IP and discuss.

I do shop around for tyres for the cheapest available but I'd be wary of buying any from a scrap yard, they won't have been checked at all and you've no idea if there is any damage on there at all.
