Phew! it's finally over, after all the problems we had during our IVA, I finally went Bankrupt today. I was a lot calmer than I thought I would be as I have been suffering from depression anxiety and panic attacks, but luckily the medication is working its magic. A couple of months ago I would not be able to cope with today without a major panic attack. Anyone thinking about Bankruptcy it is not as horrible at court as you think. It is normal people doing a job, and nice people. Just got to wait for official receiver to phone me which I am a little nervous about. In the end my husband and I decided to split our debts, he is continuing with an IVA at a reduced amount which was accepted on Friday. This way we feel that at least we have paid some of our debt back. There is a part of me that feels guilty that I could not carry on with mine, but I tried my best. Unforseen expenses just made it too hard in the end. A bit of a concilation is that the £6072.00 paid into IVA will be split between mine and hubbys creditors and £600 I had to pay today to the court is a bit of a contribution.All feels a bit weird at the moment but looking forward to a new life and a fresh start.

As you say, actually going to court and declaring yourself bankrupt is almost always never as bad as you think it is going to be. I am sure that your meeting on the phone with the OR will also go smoothly.

Well done from me too, what a huge relief to have taken off your shoulders. I don't think you should feel guilty as you have exhausted all your options & tried your best, but sometimes it just does not work out.
Great to hear your husbands IVA has also been accepted & I wish you lots of luck on your fresh start & the rest of your husbands IVA journey. Keep posting n letting us know how you both get on.

I'm glad the BR is finally out of the way for you floridaholiday. You're right, the court staff are just doing their job, but it doesn't make it any less worrying! I used to work in the court service, but I was still terrified!

I'm sure the OR meeting won't be as bad as you're expecting, I know mine wasn't x

Note that you have said previously that a car is vital for you for work and for kids to school. Was just wondering where you live - I know that you have said that you are in a great new place - is good old cheap public transport not an option?? - and how far away is the kids school from your home???

Thanks all for your kind comments. with regards to my car situation. I live in the middle of a small village. It is a mile up our lane to get to the house, and the only buses are school buses for my eldest daughter, and the other one I have to take to school, which is another two miles. I appreciate what you say but we could not even walk as there are no footpaths until you get to the school. There is also no other way for me to get to work but car.

I would think that you have a good chance of keeping your car floridaholiday. Public transport isn't an option for many people, especially if you live in a rural area.

I was able to keep my car even though I was only a few miles from work as public transport wasn't possible. The OR accepted that I wouldn't be able to get to work on time if had to use the bus.

I think you will be ok with the car. Public transport isn't always the answer, especially if you live rurally.

I'm sure you'll be fine with the car too...unless you're driving around in an Aston Martin LOL!!!

I have to say, coming back from the supermarket today on public transport with two heavy bags and a handbag was a nightmare. I had to stop about six times on the 10 minute walk part. For a family weekly shop alone, no creditor could ask a mum to go without her car!

I couldn't manage my weekly shop without a car and there's only two of us! I normally end up with at least 5 or 6 carrier bags, my handbag, and if I went straight from work I'd have my company laptop as well!

I certainly couldn't do the weekly shop without a car, my parents don't drive so rely on us if they have an emergency in the middle of the night which we have had in the past.

With three dogs as well I'd be stuffed if I needed to take them all the vets at the same time!

just an update had call from official receiver today. He was so nice. He thanked me for the explaination I had given for my debt situation which goes back to 2005. It gave him a good idea of my life over the last 6 years. He asked a couple of questions which I answered, and at the end of the conversation he said good luck for the future which I thought was so nice. I thanked him for being so nice. The whole bankruptcy experience is definately nowhere near as scary as you imagine, so anyone going through the process try not to worry, it really is not bad. I have no IPO and may get early discharge. Have put bankruptcy off so many times because I was scared. Really glad I did now. I can start living my life again phew !

forgot to add when I came off the phone I just wanted to cry partly relief and the other part how nicely I had been treated, at court and by official receiver, did not make me feel like I had done something really bad.
