Im currently in a debt management plan with the CCCS for the past 3 years & they have only recently suggested a IVA seeing as though my income and expenditure has not changed much. I pay now £200 a month against around £60k debt across 9 creditors so i know i qualify for a IVA.
My ex racked up some catalogue bills which are under my name and are not in this plan. Stupid as I was, i thought he would pay these back but I have been strugging to pay them myself. So I plucked up the courage to tell CCCS today and the woman was quite rude to me asking me to send in statements from the catalogues so they can assess what has been purchased. Obviously the things purchased are going to be classed as non-essential items. Whilst i completely understand that i signed a agreement not take out anymore debt, i feel a bit stranded now as they are threatening to finish my plan with them within 2 weeks.
Can I go alone it alone continuing with my debt management plan paying my creditors directly myself and if i deceided a IVA was the best for me can I find someone else to help me other than the CCCS??

Hi and welcome to the forum, you can leave the CCCS anytime and arrange a payment plan with your creditors, some companies are more receptive to companies and often the interest is stopped if you're in a DMP with a reputable company. Why not take a look at
www.iva.com there you will find a list of companies and some reviews of these, choose 2 or 3 to talk to to ensure impartial free advice. All debt solutions can be discussed and if you do decide to go down the IVA route all unsecured lending can be included including those catalogue debts.
Worth a free chat to discuss your options in my opinion. x

I am surprised that the IVA or bankruptcy option was not discussed in depth with you before now. A DMP at that level is totally pointless and you will never be debt free. It would certainly be worth taking further independent advice from an IP firm as to your correct options.

You shouldn't be spoken to like that by someone who is supposed to help you! You definitely sound like an iva candidate and should take advice from a couple of professionals to decide whether you would prefer this route. It will be quicker! Best of luck

I agree with Lesley and Michael that you should take some independent advice.
Visit the link she posted - the advice is free and impartial.

OK - you may have breached the terms of the DMP by allowing your husband to use your extended credit lines - but there is no need for the CCCS representative to be rude to you. Indeed I would be asking them why they did not provide you with more rounded advice at the time you entered into the DMP - ie whether an IVA or indeed bankruptcy proceedings might have been more suitable options.
An IVA would appear to be a suitable medium for you to repay your debts with, and at least it is over a set timescale rather than an open-ended agreement which will take you years and years to repay.

Hi Theresa.036, sorry to hear about your recent phone call with us. I've spoken with the Client Liaison Manager and if you'd like her to review the call then she can do this for you.
Regarding your situation, if a DMP is no longer the best advice you need to fully understand the options available (even if your decision is to go it alone).
If you'd like we can arrange a further debt counselling appointment with a senior counsellor, so you can make an informed decision about your financial future.
Regards,
Peer on behalf of CCCS

Hi there Theresa. The post from Peer seems encouraging and I hope you will be able to make whoever you speak to at CCCS see sence. Ultimately if they will not help you there is absolutely nothing to stop you continuing with your DMP and making the payments yourself.
Alternatively as has already been said, I would look into the possibility of doing an IVA as on the face of it, this would resolve your debt problem far faster. Press the CCCS about this or speak to an independent expert who can help you.
