Im about to move and although my IVA is currently going through the final stages and im waiting for the certificate of completion im concerned about the credit check done by a letting agent.
What are they looking for? I told them about the IVA and they said it shouldn't be a problem and at worst a guarantor might be needed, but im not sure I have anyone suitable.

Hi Rovex,
Hopefully it will go through ok. I know of other posters on here who have managed to rent although they have had to pay six months rent in advance.
You can always ask your IP for a letter just confirming that you have made all your payments on time, this sometimes suffices.

Hi - I had to provide a guarantor and double deposit. After all the negotiations the iva didn't even showup on the credit check as they did a mini check which only shows ccj and br!

On a practical level having a reference from your previous landlord demonstrating a good payment record will go a long way to helping, as will an explanation that an IVA helps to prioritise money for rent. I'd suggest that explaining the IVA upfront to the agent (before the credit check) might also be helpful.
The agent will be acting for a private landlord who is only interested in getting a good tenant who will look after the home and pay on time. A good reference and upfront honesty will go a long way with many private landlords despite any previous issues connected to debts.

I have told them about the IVA and have got a letter explaining that its finished and that i met all terms. No way i can pay 6 months upfront or double deposit. Im not renting alone, im moving with my best friend who is squeaky clean on the credit front, so hopefully that will help.

Hopefully it will. Is he/she able to take on the rental on their own and you just pay them rent if there are any problems?
