Grant Thornton have a good reputation, but feel free to speak to more companies via
www.iva.com for free and impartial advice.
It can't hurt to do that.

There are no up front fees or any hidden costs with GT. They're client focused and work hard for you.

They took over my IVA last year, and I had no problems with them at all. Always worth making your own decision though, check out
www.iva.com for some impartial reviews
Good luck with whatever you decide

Hi
As others have said they are a very reputable company, hence the CABs referral.

Does anyone know why the CAB favour Grant Thornton over other firms? I had always thought that the CAB had to be seen to be impartial, but there have been a few posts recently confirming this advice.

It probably has something to do with the fact that CAB's annual report shows GT as being a financial supporter/donor to the CAB network.
In itself I don't think that there is anything wrong with that but given that the CAB network is dedicated to providing local support it seems strange that an individual in Cardiff is directed to an IP in Northern Ireland!
I would be interested to hear NEDCAB's view on this arrangement.

I didn't know that they were able to accept donations from the private sector. But I am glad that they do, as central funding is ever squeezed!

Thankyou for the replies. The CAB told us they usually direct people towards Grant Thornton or Payplan, for us they're saying Grant Thornton. I've looked at the review site, they don't appear to have many up to date reviews as others do so feedback is helpful.

Another question, if the CAB receive donations from Grant T. does that mean the fees charged are increased in anyway to cover donation's/refer?
The CAB have been very helpful to us.I wouldn't have know where else to go for help.
Deciding who to use is difficult having no past experience of this. I feel very vulnerable due to my lack of experience and my physical situation.
Thankyou

Hi,
I doubt the fees would be increased to cover the donations.
Do give one or two more companies a ring. The experts who post on here come highly recommended.

The fees are agreed between the creditors and the IP. This only really impacts on the client if the debts are repaid in full and the client is then responsible for paying the fees and costs.

I was directed to the nearest local firm, it was from the CCCS, but i was delt with the birmingham office, and they refered me to a birmingham based IP, guess it helps keep all the postage and telephone calls costs down [:D]
