I have been in an IVA for two years. Before my proposal was accepted I opened an account with Abbey (now Santander). They won’t issue a new debit card as the branch have set a signal. I did owe Alliance and Leicester who have now merged with Santander. Do you think that the issue will be that they have spotted the IVA?

It could be. Have they not explained why you can't have a new card or offered an alternative?

Hi,i too have had problems with Santander. My current mortgage deal expires this month and they wont give me a new deal.I have to go on to there variable rate. When i questioned them about it they said its because im in an IVA.
Also Aviva have refused to carry on our House and contents insurance.
I have never missed any payments to either of the above and have been in my IVA for 4 years.
Must be down to new legislation what with current economic climate.
Regards blods.

I've had no problems with my contents insurance and I'm with Aviva.

You're lucky Jan - I've heard of a few people who've had this problem with Aviva, including one who had his car insurance terminated with immediate effect!

its not fair, what do they expect you to do, its daft that they won't sort things like this out. After all as someone else said, we're the best and safest bet cos we're not likely to be a risk

As we've made one or two claims recently, I'm surprised they haven't!

Turned out to be something of nothing and cards authorised.
Totally unconnected found an £8K cheque deposit in the account today. Clearly an error but my IP will get excited at review!

I'm worried now i have read this about Santander! I opened my account with alliance and leicester before my IVA,none of my debts were with santander or abbey etc but does this mean they might not issue me a new card when the one i've got expires?!

dont think that they will bother ..we are with santandar and its issues regarding the card working at the till .. not the issuing of one ....not sure they are clever enough to talk to other banks !...ie abbey and santander !
