I have just received a letter from a debt recovery firm based in the USA. I worked over there for a while, it would appear that the company I worked for at that time didnt pay some bills approx $500....and are now chasing me for the debt - should I pay or what is the possibility of them demanding it from me ??
Anyone offer any advice ? I've tried google without much luck so thought I would check the forum.
Thanks

Hi
I would doubt the debt was enforcable over here. Problem may arise if you ever work over there again.

Are you liable for the debt?

To be honest Mel I have no idea, I don't believe so - the company I worked for which was UK based failed to pay a couple of bills for rental, utilities etc - the lease was under their name - but I'm been chased as they knew me personally.

Given that they have no contractual relationship with you personally, I think it is hardly likely that they could launch a successful action against you now. Assume you have contacted your former employers to advise them to deal with this for you?
