Hi guys, will any banks out there give you back a current account after youve completed an IVA and when your credit file becomes clear? xx

I think most banks will be favourable to you. You should possibly be able to upgrade the account you have.

What would a "current" account offer compared with accounts you have in an IVA?

Possibly an overdraft?

A debit card and a cheque book?

I have neither.

Do you not have a debit card Jan?

Hubby is now with the co-op since BR and he has a debit card.

No, no debit card. I should be being upgraded soon as Nationwide are sending out new cards, but it still won't be a full debit card.

If at the onset of the IVA you're able to get a new full account with the credit of an overdraft it is always advisable.

For some reason Nationwide wouldn't give us a full account before the IVA, even though our credit was good.

Barclays did, but then became a creditor!

I don't mind that much. At least I'm used to dealing in cash now.

I still take my shopping/diesel money out each Friday and use cash as it suits me, I prefer it as if I run out of money then so be it, if I don't it goes in the tin for saving. x

Same here, we take cash shopping with us and have to make sure we are within budget when in the supermarket.

It's worked so far.

totally agree - weekly cash out of the bank for shopping / fuel etc and then when it has gone it has gone. I also send via standing order our car maintenance / tax and insurance money into another account and the dd's are taken from that account. Likewise our contigency, clothing and personal hygiene I&E amounts are added to a savings account each month and we then use that when we need to - otherwise it builds up for xmas and birthday's ! That way the money left in our current account is there for utility bills and our food/fuel....works for us !
