It depends on your occupation and what your contract states. Speak to an IP firm and give them more info and your questions should be answered.

It does depend on your job and your terms &conditions of employment.
Can you say what area of work you are in?

Most jobs are not affected by IVAs these days.

Even if there is a clause in your contract regarding IVA/BR/legal agreement with creditors, depending on your role, you can challenge it.
I have recently battled against such a clause for a senior member of staff as it was irrelevant to his role. Pleased to say, I won and the clause has now been retracted.

Well i was really worried about how it would affect my job so i phoned and spoke to the head of HR anonymously.
I told her that we were considering an IVA and asked how the company looks at this and if it would make a difference to my job.
I was really shocked at her reaction.
The first thing that she said was 'Are you alright, is there anything that we can do to help?'
Which made me cry. I was totally shocked at this attitude. She told me that there was no problem at all and this really reasured me. She said they would rather have staff that were dealing responsibly with their debts than those that were ignoring them.
I actually admitted to her about 6 weeks later that it was me and she just asked again if she could help and if everything was going ok.

That is exactly how good HR Managers should react. Well done to her, and to you for having the courage to approach her for advice.

How lovely of her, I wish all HR departments were like that. Trying to talk to ours is like trying to get a private audience with the Pope!

Hi, can I just ask, is there any way a company can find out about your IVA if you don't discolse this to them (apart from the dreaded Insolvency List)? I'm worried now that my company may find out, I was planning on not telling anyone....can anybody advise please? Thanks x

The chances of a company finding out without you telling them is slim.

Glad to hear your HRM was so supportive New Start.
Sunshine Ahead - your employers will not be told of your IVA. However, if your contract of employment states you have to disclose any agreement with creditors, then you should inform your employer.
What line of work are you in?

Hi, I'm a Race Equality Officer for a Primary Care Trust (NHS). I don't think my contract stated anything regarding agreements with creditors... I have no idea where my contract is and feel it may raise suspicion if I asked for a copy. I wouldn't imagine my HR department being as supportive as the previous poster's :/ x

I haven't a clue what mine says and have no intention of finding out!
Two and half years (almost) down the line and no one has found out yet.

I was under the impression when I took my IVA out that I could not go Bankrupt without losing my job. However I know of a couple of bankrupt peeps at my work who kept their job because they were already employed but would not be accepted if new coming in. Hypocritical I personally think but there you go.
Someone in a financial situation does not make your integrity less in my book and if it does then that should be the reason you get fired not just for having the potential of losing your integrity.
I just bought a fan cause I couldn't sleep in the heat and now its cool at night just my luck lol
