Yes it is very concerning and also very, very tragic. He was in a current IVA by all accounts. Will be interesting to look at the bigger picture once more information is released

Very sad indeed. There may well have been other issues as well and I would hope the press do not make a direct link between IVAs and someone's state of mind to do what they did.
His IVA could have been going very well other problems took a hold.

A tragedy for the remaining family and friends.

It is very sad that for some people this looks like the only way out for them, in this case it appears he only had 1 year left for it to go.

My IVA is not yet set up (creditors meeting 3rd August) but from what I have experienced from Mercers up to now I am actually surprised that it does not happen more.

Extremely sad indeed, the issues this poor family faced eventually proved too much. I agree with Tina that I hope they do not make some ridiculous link. What is needed now is sympathy and support for the family and community around them.

As someone on the road to an IVA and with young kids I feel truly upset and saddened by this.

We just do not know all the facts yet as to what made him crack and do this.

I'm sure the debt situation played a big part as we all know how stressful it can get at times. But there must have been something else, something bigger that pushed him over he edge.

My heart goes out to the family and friends and hope they can get some answers.

His IVA is with Grant Thornton and the pressure of rising repayments meant he was facing bankruptcy after 4 years of his IVA and he obviously felt that bankruptcy would be worse than an IVA after all he had paid in, if only he had gotten proper and correct advice, he would have seen that bankruptcy can be a positive thing!

Absolutely but thats not to say the tragic end would have been prevented unfortunately. I have dealt with suicidal clients in my couselling work too and it comes down to a culmination of things and a mindset someone is in.

Thank heavens we have this forum to provide you all with the support and advice that you all need when you need it. If only we could let everyone know where we are to give them the benefit too.

I feel for the team at GT, in particular the person who was dealing with him directly as this will be terrible for them as it would be for any of us to have this happen to a client.

We will never know the full facts and what else was going on in his life, regardless of what gets reported in the press. Lets hope they are respectful.

The mind can be a dark place and the fact in cases like this you always find yourself with more questions than answers.

It is wrong to assume that he did not receive proper advice and I am not sure if details of his IVA are known to anyone ouside of GT.
Best to wait for the full facts to emerge before we pass judgement.
All the professional posters on this forum are fully aware that bankruptcy is a viable option for people in debt and would always discuss this with anyone seeking advice

We'll never know what really happened and it's unfair to try to say he didn't get the proper advice.

It is very sad, but we do need to know the full facts. He may already have had depression problems without all this.

I would imagine that GT would have given him the correct advice and I think it's unfair to blame them.

It is traic that some one felt so low that death was the only option they could see. It is a pity that this Forum couldn't be advertised I am not saying that being a member here would have changed the outcome but perhaps he wouldn't have felt so alone and could have had a forum to discuss the problem he was having.

What an extremely sad and ultimately shocking story. I find it incredibly difficult to comprehend that a man could take his wife and children`s lives, and in such a savage manner, solely because of financial problems no matter how severe they may have been.
