I am at work and could do with a quick answer from someone.

A colleague of mine has asked if I will witness a document. She has asked before and then it never came to light. But I know this document is an application for a loan.

I feel totally uncomfortable doing this, and don't want to do this, but as she is my friend too I don't want to let her down in anyway.

Please say there is something about not being able to do this if you are in an IVA. x

Hi Flow
Does the loan document indicate you are are to become a gaurantor in the event of non payment from your friend?

If all you're being asked to do it witness her signature I really wouldn't worry too much - I have been asked several times by members of my team at work to witness loan/mortgage applications, and all you are doing is witnessing that it was them who signed the form in front of you. However if it is just a signature that needs witnessing and you still feel uncomfortable about it then explain this to her, I'm sure she'll find someone else willing, if I recall last time I did one I'm sure I didn't even need to have known the person for a set length of time, just sign and date to agree I'd watched them sign it!

Do read it carefully though, just to make sure that you're not agreeing to be a guarantor!

Still a bit worried about this even though everyone I have spoken to said it will be ok.

In the box I was asked to sign it just 'witness signature, witness name and witness name and witness address'. For the name I just put 1st initial and surname, and for address I just put the first line of address.

I will be ok won't I?

Thanks Andy. My hubby is always telling me not to worry too.

Although I am worried about the girl who is having the loan.

I like others think to witness that the signature is that of your friends is fine.

A few weeks back someone asked me to do a passport application for them, I did it but all the time I was thinking oh I hope this don't go wrong, I kept asking if her grandson had his passport yet and when he did I was relieved. I really don't see logically how me being a teacher and having an IVA would affect his passport application but things do tend to worry me. I did do them for lots of friends but this is the first one while I've been in an IVA x

No problem witnessing a signature. You are just saying that it is that person.

We do passports and wills for friends and neighbours.
