Hi all
After several months of being in denial, myself and my wife have sat down and are looking into getting an IVA. We have been able to make payments on all our outstanding debt but as a consequence we have had to put our weekly food shop and petrol on credit cards which means we are spiralling further and further into debt.
We initally spoke to Debt Advisory Line but after discovering this fantastic forum have decided to take advice from other people also. Reading some of the posts on here makes us feel much better and hopefully something can be done to help us out.
I am speaking to one of Melanies team tonight (was supposed to be Friday but the computer system crashed!) to discuss the best way to deal with our problems

Hi
Taking steps to speak to someone is often the hardest part but once you have done that it is so much easier and you will feel that a weight has been lifted off your shoulders.
We often advise on here to speak with several companies/experts before committing, however you are in very safe hands with Melanie's team
Good luck

Melanie's team has advised me that an iva isnt appropriate at the moment due to our high outgoings and has passed out details on to a debt management planner who i am speaking to tonight.
Am i right in thinking a DMP is similar to an IVA but all debts must be repaid regardless of how long it takes??

Yes all you owe will be repaid in a DMP. Interest may or may not be frozen for some or all of the time that you are in the dmp.
Let us know how you get on.

Pity about the IVA but isn't appropriate at the moment isn't ever so you never know. I had a smiliar problem but was able to remortgage to lower my mortgage payments thereby freeing up disposable income.
Melanie will have given you a good contact I'm sure for a DMP and I wish you well with that x

Its been over 2 months since my orignal post. After taking advice from Melanie's team we decided to speak to a couple of other people for a 3rd/4th/5th opinion!! From the 5 people we spoke to 3 thought an IVA was appropriate, 2 not. We decided to take our chances and go ahead with an IVA proposal. In the meantime i got a letter from work saying that i was getting a £3k payrise which was great news and today, best of all, our IVA has been accepted.
Me and Mrs B are delighted - 1 payment gone, 59 to go!!!!!!
