Hi,
after a weeks battle of what to do, my hubby has taken it in to his own hands, and decided that we should do a iva through baines, with BE. I dont know if this is the right choice, i have been on iva.com and the reviews on there are not very good, any one got something good to say about them, i cant go through the conversation again with my hubby, lol thanks.

Given that you are one half of this partnership - surely you have some say so in this matter? Five years is a long time to be with a firm you are less than comfortable with, so why not make some separate enquiries of other firms of your own and then try and make a joint decision as to who will be best for you.

as Mel says, if you have reservation about who he is going with then it really should be aired before entering into the IVA.
BE do get mixed reviews but I am often of the ilk that people tend not to go out of their way to post 'generally good news' on internet forums so more often than not posts about particular companies tend to be bias towards the negative. Fortunately you do get to se recommendations on this forum which is great imo.
Do you know which IP's your hubby has discussed the situation with - its very important to not just got to the first one you call, without balancing the information up against a couple of other views.
just my two penneth worhth :)
enjoy the sun this weekend regardless :)

you need to be very sure that this is also the right decision for you - your husband cannot simply decide that you should both should do an IVA through anyone. You need to both be 100% committed to it as it is not easy - we're nearly one year through and it has been tough. You need each other. I am concerned for you that you could become resentful to your hubby if you just go along with his ideas.

You need to speak to a couple of IPs yourself. We are with cleardebt and I can not recommend them enough. Melanie Giles who also posts on here comes very highly rated too. Look at iva.com and call a couple and make you own mind up.

Good luck and any questions please use the forum - it's been a source of support and information for us over the last 15 months.

Why does hubby want to go with BE?? Were they the 1st company he cotacted and if so,I assume he doesnt want to go through the embarassment of telling your debt history to someone else.
Has he looked for reviews online? Does he come onto the forum at all??

If you're not comfortable with the company that you have chosen please take further advice.

Hi,

Why not show your hubby the reviews and compare with reviews of other companies. If you both decide to go with his choice then at least you know you've done some research.

Speaking from my own experience, I wish I had found this forum and taken the advice to look at a few companies. Instead we went with the first company we came across and it was a huge mistake. So please, take your time and put your foot down with hubby...it is so important to pick the right IP.

Good luck and keep us updated xx

I agree with all of the above posts, you would be better speaking to other companies as well.

Show him these posts so he can see what a brilliant place this is and that he does need to take further advice before making a decision.

I think it's vital to take the advice of 2 or 3 IP's before deciding and do make sure they're contactable, it's no good if you can't contact your IP when you need to. That to me is vital as I'm a born worrier. x

Joelizzie,

You have only deliberated your move for just over a week - it took me and my wife the best part of 5 months before we moved forward with our decision on which path to take.

We spoke to a number of companies (only a fool speaks to one), and researched and gathered as much info as possible on who can steer us through this financial mess.

Eventually, bearing in mind it took us 5 months to decide, we eventually chose Melanie Giles.

Yes she shoots from the hip, and tells it like it is, but rest assured you are left in no doubt that the decision YOU BOTH TAKE is correct in addressing your predicament.

The fact you get to talk to Melanie, and communicate via email during the very wee small hours is testament that you are not just a number sat on the IVA production line awaiting to be shoved further down for processing.

Whatever and whoever you chose, make sure you empower yourselves with the facts regarding an IVA, and speak to more than one provider.

Gd luck.

I think it's unfair to say that 'only a fool speaks to one' company. Many people are terrified of the situation that they are on and choose the first company they speak to as they think they are getting the best advice and are just relieved that they have found a solution.

Don't forget that many people don't find this forum until it's too late.

I know a lot of people on the forum wish they'd found it sooner for the good advice it conveys. Lots of people are desperate and take any opportunity for a debt solution and I can understand that. I spoke to two other companies and then found the forum and Melanie so it worked out well for me.

To the OP, please at least try to get your hubby to talk to at least one other company and the professionals who post on the forum do come highly recommened and the link provided above is also good to find at least one other company to have an informal chat to.

All the best. xx

I agree with Skippy that most people will grab the first lifeline they are thrown and wouldn't think of speaking to anyone else. The fact that they are being offered a way out is enough.

We were initially told we couldn't do an IVA so spent 18 months on a DMP before phoning Payplan and being told we could do an IVA. I hadn't found this forum at that point otherwise I would have tried a couple more firms.

Having said that, I am more than happy with Payplan at the moment.

I disagree that people don't post good news on forums - we get plenty of that on here.

Skippy & kallis,

Yes if people have not discovered this forum then they will inevitably jump at the 1st hand of help coming their way.

Joelizzie has discovered this forum, and thus it would be foolish for them both to run with the 1st hand of help.Given this forum is a wealth of knowledge, there should be no need to "JUMP".

Take your time, speak to 2 or 3 IPs then sit back and decide.
