I have been advised that an allowance for tobacco is allowed in an IVA.
What is considered a fair allowance?
Speaking with one company, I was told £30 is acceptable. This for me translates into a 20 a day habit down to 4 a day. This overtime is a realistic goal; but to suddenly drop to this in the space of weeks not months is a big ask.
Thanks.

Gives you a pretty good excuse to give up!!
Put down what you spend and feel free to argue your case with your IP.
You wont get away with 20 a day at a fiver a packet though(in my opinion).
My wife was allowed £50 a month.

Hi..as Paul says, put down what you actually spend and go from there.
How much as a family do you spend a month on smoking?

I can't really advise on cutting down as I have never smoked, therefore I don't understand the allowance or the challenge for those who do smoke. I have other vices [:D]
I can only repeat, that you should declare on your I&E what you actually spend.

Hi
I think that it is reasonable for creditors to ask you to cut down but the amount must be realistic, maybe a staggered amount over a year ?

Put down what you spend and see what they say on the day of the creditors meeting - but it is always a good idea to try and give up if you can.

Try roll ups too? it's a cheaper option to tailor made cigarettes? When I smoked I smoke the odd roll up and found I liked them in the end. Been stopped 4 years now. x

both hubby and I are now off cigarettes just over a week. it was working out at £40 each week which I would rather have in the bank. Plus quitting smoking also has other benefits.
We signed up to a smoking cessation and it only cost £9 for 4 months and covers a pack of patches each week.

Briggadeen,
Where do you obtain these cessation packs from?
Is it an NHS initiative?
I have decided some good must come of our predicament, so I am now on a drive to give up smoking - not going to be easy considering our current situation in trying to obtain an IVA, and the associated stress involved with such a process.
I smoke about 20 a day, but have managed to get down to this level from 40 per day. I have also secured a placement for the BUPA 10k Greater Manchester run on the 16th May, so another driver to force me in the right direction.
I will put down what I spend and then take it from there (small steps big changes) as they say.

Hi
This was done through our local Boots pharmacy. You buy a 4 month prepayment certificate for scripts etc and have a discussion wit the pharmacist about your smoking habits etc and then decide the best course of treatment. You have to attend them once every week and they will give you patches, inhalor, lozenges and gum etc as you are being weaned off.
So far so good. Normally by now I am so moody but I also have a chest/throat infection and I can honestly say I am not missing it.

I was very lucky that I was able to go cold turkey and 14 years later am still off them. Not to say that I'm not tempted now and then!
Trouble was that the weight went on.......and on..........

Thats my only worry! I haven't lost all my baby weight yet and my baby is 3 soon! So I'm being extra careful of what passes the lips.
