I want to apply for a position as a director - would my IVA prevent me doing so? Could this be held against me?

Not necessarily - but you would need to check the Articles of Association of the company to see if this would prevent you from taking up office. Easily remedied by a simple board resolution, but you would of course have to share this with your co-directors who would then find out about your financial circumstances.
