Can anyone recommend any basic bank account which doesn't rely on credit scoring? My current bank has turned me down for an additional account as even on their basic accounts they now credit score.

Hi,

Try the Co-op as they have a good reputation for people in IVA's and I would also recommend the Natwest - I am with them. You may still be credit checked but you would only get a basic account anyway

I agree with Ray, try the co-op for a basic account. You may have to visit a branch/telephone as I believe online applications can get refused.

Hi
I would definitely recommend the Coop. We set it all up over the telephone and they have been absolutly great. We opened a cashminder account with a debit card and no overdraft facilities which is exactly what we wanted. You can use the online banking facility so you know exactly where you are with your money!

Yorkshire Bank are supposed to be good as well, as are Barclays.

Make sure that whichever one you choose is not one of your creditors.

Some people do have a problem if they are not on the electoral register, but other than that, most people seem to get on ok.

Hi Merrypotter, have you found that you are unable to use the debit card with Tesco homeshopping?

If it is a proper debit card then you should be able to use it for online shopping.

I would also recommend the NatWest Step account if it is just a basic account with a solo card you are after. I applied for one and was accepted no problem. I have managed to upgrade it to a current account with debit card with no hassle but I cancelled the overdraft facility.

I have heard that you can't use the Co-op debit card online with Tesco as despite the card now being recognised as a full debit card by Visa, Tesco apparently haven't updated their system.
