My norwich / peterborough have given me a visa debit card to replace my cashcard. this is obviously much more convenient but I wondered is a visa debit better than a electron visa card?

From what I can know a visa debit card can be used in many more places than a visa electron card.

Saying that - we have a visa electron and we have only found 1 place that wouldnt accept it and that was a holiday park.

Flow is right, a Visa debit card can be used in more places than an Electron.

Not that I ever really had a problem with my Electron card - the only place I found that wouldn't accept it was M & S online.

Yes I have found my other card a abbey electron was ok but not as widely acepted. This new visa debit is good because it looks like a normal debit card. The electron made me feel less worthy when using it.

It never had that effect on me! Nowadays no-one even sees the card anyway as you just put in the chip and pin machine.

I was embarrassed a few weeks ago at the train station, I ordered my tickets and put my card in the machine, the machine refused it, the bloke behind the counter just said, "we don't take electron", as I had no cash on me I had to walk away.
Thanks Northernrail

From what I understand most high street banks will be issuing visa cashcards from now on to replace the maestro / electron cards. Not sure if its true though!

Thanks

I've got Solo card and I used to be embarrassed but now I don't try and hide it when waiting in a queue, basically I gave up feeling embarrassed, I'm doing something to remedy my debt situation, although I choose not to tell people what it is.

Solo not accepted at the Morrisons pay at the pump but you can go into the garage to pay!

You could always use a prepay card, they are excellent for online purchases if nothing else.

why is there a stigma with the solo and electron cards?

There are just some online, and normal sites which won't accept them.

I don't think you'll have any luck with Nationwide Helen - I've never heard of anyone having their card upgraded whilst in an IVA.

Must admit that I've never tried. We have kept our Barclays account open and put any spare money in that so I do have the option of a debit card if funds allow.

I presume they don't have many branches across the country, so can you use the Post Office to pay in money?
