Hi everyone,
In the last week, I've started to now miss payments and the number of creditor calls are starting to increase. As I have caller ID, I never pick up the phone unless it's someone I know. I've sent the creditor letters advising that i'm in talks with an IP but have't formally called them to advise them of the situ. The creditors are requesting a call back- Should I call them back or should I just ignore them?

It is entirely up to you what you do with your creditors. I didn't speak to any of mine on the run up to my IVA, but others do.

If you do speak to them, don't be bullied into making any payments. The call centres are out to make money and will try anything to make you pay. They have no bearing on your IVA proposal.

You could ignore the calls, or you could change your number.

Hi Simon and welcome to the forum, as Kallis and LadyH says it doesn't affect the outcome of the meeting if you answer/return the calls of the creditors or not.

The main thing here is you are seeking help and in talks with your chosen IP. I wish you a smooth journey and hope you continue to post to gain that reassurance/advice that you may need.

ive spoke to most companies at least once as they have phoned and told them im going for an iva any calls after that ive just said that id already spoke to them and goodbye, most have been fine tbh .

That's a sensible attitude to take. I ignored the calls but some people do prefer to speak to the creditors.

simon.ms as others have said it's whether or not you feel comfortable talking to your creditors. I spoke to all of mine right throughout the IVA process and must say never had any real problems with them, infact most were very very understanding and just requested that I keep them informed on how my IVA application was going on a fortnightly basis.

I can only agree with what the others have said. You should make sure they only ring your mobile and give them a convenient time to do so. This stops calls at work or at home and just keeps them in the loop.

If you have already instructed an IP firm to represent you, then you should ask them if they have already written to your creditors to confirm your intentions to put forward an IVA offer.
