Hi

My wife and I have just started the IVA process and having seen some of the horror stories on here about phone calls are wondering if it is a good idea to change our phone number or not?

Can someone let me know if this is a good idea? or whether it will risk our IVA being rejected.

It wont risk your IVA being rejected but it will make the process far less stressful without the creditors constantly phoning you.
Beware though, lots of people have been contacted through work.

You could contact your creditors and amend the details to your mobile number. You can delete some info online which will prevent calls to work or late at night. Advise the creditors when is the best time to call and normally they do adhere to this provided you do take the call. The process is not too long and hopefully your IVA will be in place without too many nasty calls.

Personally I would not change my number as it could be a bigger hassle than a couple of weeks of creditor calls.

Hi there, I took all calls but I do realise and understand totally that some people do not want to. Changing your phone number is a good option if you really dont want to deal with the calls.

We took out BT Total Broadband with Broadband Talk so were given a new number as well as our old one. We then unplugged the old number and it was bliss to be able to answer the phone without worrying who was on the other end.

I still enjoy the feeling of answering the phone and not dreading the mail even after nearly two years in an IVA. x

Same here - we still have the old phone number and now have a phone plugged in to it as we do get the odd call on there.

Hi

Thanks very much for all your responses. I think we'll change some details with online banking and see how it goes before having to try and explain a new number to our friends.

You just need to tell them you have been getting some nuisance calls and so have decided the change the number.

If you do decide that, make sure you go ex directory as well.

Wiganwire I have taken calls from creditors and not had a problem and on the odd occassion have actually contacted them lol. I think I've been fortunate to-date that the calls have been civil but as you can see some do have problems with creditors calling.

I would suck it and see. If the calls get too bad then change, if not then continue to keep your number. As always time will tell but dont be afraid to talk to your creditors in the early days.

Good luck.

It may be that creditor calls aren't a problem for you, but there are options if they do become a nuisance.

I sincerely hope your creditors are too much of a problem but as others say there are options out there and a change of number can easily be explained with a little white lie to family and friends.
