When I initially took mine they told me if declined for the normal "current" account than I could be offered a lower account...."shy bairns get no sweets matey".

Matt -you'll need to apply for the basic account and do this over the telephone / at branch. Online applications get refused for some reason.

Hi I applied over the phone for a Cashminder, probably loads of defaults on my credit score by now. It went through fine. They said it was a Visa Debit card but I haven't received it yet to confirm.

Hi Matt
Are you actually in an IVA as i joined Natwest before mine went through and did it all online (just their basic account) you get Solo which is pretty much accepted everywhere and the best part is you get Online banking which i use pretty much every day!

Hi Sarah, i currently bank with Natwest and have a loan and credit card with them, so its a no-go with them unfortunately, currently in the process of having an IVA drawn up

I also applied for NatWest and yes the solo card is accepted most places. The worry I had was that NatWest are part of the RBS group so may be able to link the account with my creit card debt and as such close the account of filter out the money, hence applying for the Co-op.
Co-op are only linked to Birmingham Midshires (I think), so no debt trail there.

the cashminder account with the coop is a visa debit and online banking, it should just take a few minutes over the phone ,then you will be up and running with a welcome pack through the post, highly recommended by most forum members.

A word of warning Matt - if you are not on the voters list, it might be as well for you to do in in branch with some identification as they are known for refusing if you're not on there.

go in branch if you can.they are very helpful and accounts seem to get accepted not like online applications.

Branch is better I think, and you can't apply for a cashminder online.
