Does anybody know if you can still have a functioning Paypal account (for Ebay purposes) if you are in an IVA. Have bought and sold on Ebay for years and have had no problems with my Paypal account but in the last week (and about the same time as my IVA commenced) they have frozen it and won't tell me anything despite numerous emails/phonecalls. I don't run a business - just sell the kids old clothes/toys and buy the odd thing. Thanks.

Hi, I have a paypal account and haven't had any problesm and I know that other members on here have a paypal account as they have the prepaid paypal credit card as I do. Have you checked to see if your card has expired or something like that? Bset of luck in sorting it out.

I've never had any problems either, my account was fine in my IVA and BR.
As nomoredosh says it might be something like a card expiring. Whatever it is though Paypal should tell you!

Hi. Yep have updated all my card details ( as all new after changing bank accounts. Am worried because I had a paypal credit card which is now in the IVA - although think this is run by Santander. Am also stressing because I have about £150 in the account which belongs to a friend after I sold some stuff on their behalf as they don't have a computer. If I lose this money I've then got to find the £150 out of my own pocket. Sorry to ramble ... just don't need any more stress at the moment.

I have a Paypal account, and Ebay account and a Paypal credit card with no problems at all.
I would contact Paypal and ask them what is going on.

Paypal's customer support is notoriously poor. If they are holding your money and refuse to tell you why, then their behaviour seems totally unreasonable.
You may have more success asking for a manager and explaining that you will have no choice but to go to the financial ombudsman if they continue to be so unhelpful.

I have never had a problem with Paypals customer support - not had to phone them often, but always been dealt with straigh away.

Once you are an in IVA, I am pretty sure the creditor loses the right to offset. So shouldnt be an issue.

Loads of people have paypal accounts whilst in IVA, BR etc...send an email asking for a response in 7 days or else you'll go to the ombudsman.
Keep us updated xx

I suspect this is related to an eBay/paypal transaction rather than an IVA. Paypal can and do freeze accounts for a variety of reasons. I am a former ebay business power seller and both eBay and PayPal's customer support is blimmin awful. They held onto £400 of mine last year for a really silly reason - something about terms and conditions on my website not being worded exactly as they wanted.
Get on to PayPal and see what they say.

Hi,
Can you confirm something, when you say a paypal credit card, is it an actual 'credit card' or a 'pre-paid credit card'.
If it is a 'real' card and is included in your IVA, then even if its run by Santander it may be linked to Paypal thus the reason why your account has been frozen.
If its a pre paid one I can't understand why it was included in your IVA, I have an pre paid card, a paypal account linked to my current account with debit card and regularly do deals on Ebay.

Mine is a prepaid card, I imagine that Huge Mess's is a credit card if it was included in his IVA.

If it is a credit card it may the case that they have frozen the Paypal account because of the monies owing on the card, unfortunately this is one of the reasons why we have to open a new bank account not linked to any of our creditors which will are included in an IVA.

If that is the case then they should at least have the decency to advise why the account was frozen.
I think that their communication is appalling - they changed my password once and didn't email me to tell me. I only found out when I contacted them as I couldn't log in. Apparently it was something to do with fraudulent activity on my account, but they wouldn't give me any more information.
