Are their banks that let you keep a cheque book. Or any alternatives? About three times a year Im asked for cheques for professional fees/courses

Couldn't you transfer the money electronically instead? Cheques are rarely used by individuals these days, but you ought to be able to get a counter cheque at the bank if this is absolutely essential.

You should have no problem in getting a counter cheque from your own bank.

Do all banks write counter cheques for free? I know Nationwide do, but I don't know if they all do it.

If you change your bank account before starting down the IVA route, you may be able to get a full account with cheque book at your new bank.

If you are on a DMP then your bank account should be ok. You will be able to conduct it as normal.
We changed our account to Barclays prior to entering a DMP initially and we had a full account with cheques and we wrote these no problem.
HSBC just shut down the accounts of people in IVA's.
