I am coming to the end of my IVA (hurray!!). My administrator has been more than useless and this is why it is pointless asking him what I need to do to clear my credit files once the IVA is declared over.

Do I write to the various credit agencies with a copy of the clearance certificate? What if any steps can I take?

All answers very gratefully received.

Hi,

Well done on getting to the end.

You will need to write to the 3 Credit Reference agencies which are Experian, Equifax and Callcredit. Do bear in mind that even though you have finished your IVA, the defaults etc.do not drop off your file till the 6th year

<center></center>Thank you for your speedy reply. Do I assume correctly that the six year time limit is the period from the date of the IVA being approved?

So if the IVA was approved April 2004 and completes April 2009, discharge certificate given say August 2009, the credit files are cleared in April 2010. (sorry to be pedantic but to be sure I correctly understand the dates!).

Just a point - insolvency practitioners do not get involved in cleaning up credit files once an insolvency case has been finalised. I am afraid that this is between you and your creditors, and the six year duration from the timing of your IVA being accepted is correct.

You will need to check your records to make sure that non of your creditors have defaulted you after the date the IVA started.

If they have, you will have to write and tell them to remove the defaults as they cannot put them on afterwards.
