Hello,

Some of you may remember I posted a while ago about my situation.Thanks for all the advice.

I originally chose debt free direct to look after my affairs, however, during the process I switched providers to abacus financial. During this period I paid my first payment to abacus of £100, alongside a token payment to my creditors.

Speaking with Bec, from Abacus, I was informed letters had been sent out to my creditors and that it would take a while to hear back from them. Today however, I have been sent a letter from Nationwide, a default notice, they want full settlement of the debt and the return of the credit card.

Where does this leave the debt management plan? Should I try to make another token payment?

Hi,

This may just be a standard notice that Nationwide send out. If your DMP has been set up, they will be receiving the payments from Abacus.

I appreciate that you won't be able to do anything until Tuesday, but I would then speak to Ababcus and tell them about the letter. I would not make any other payments in the meantime.

I have had similar letters whilst in a debt managemant plan, I was advised just to forward the letters on to abacus, they do tail off after a while.

Hi
It can be part and parcel of going into a Debt Managent Plan receiving default notices.
Just keep your Debt Management company informed and pass any letters onto them.
I would not be too alarmed

Hi MattS - send all letters in and I will alert the Abacus team to have this sorted immediately on Tuesday morning.(Abacus is part of the ClearDebt Group family).

Don't worry your plan will be running perfectly and as other posters have indicated this is no more than a standard letter.

It is very common for creditors to say that they have not heard from the firm assisting you - we get calls like this all the time, and is generaly as a result of left hand/right hand lack of co-ordination within the lenders own teams.

Hi and thanks all.

David, I'm not sure you can answer this but here goes. Do Abacus deal with PPI refunds and complaints at all? I ask as I wrote to LloydsTSB regarding my loan and the fact I was charged a one off PPI of almost £2,000.

I received a letter back stating they would knock almost all of the PPI off the balance of the loan, all but £200. However, I had 7 days to accept the offer. I'm just wondering if its worth sending that into Abacus too? They were made aware I was entering education and self employment when I took out the loan.

Would Lloyds still play ball considering I was entering into a DMP or is it not worth the hassle?

Yes Abacus does do PPI claims work so send this into their office as well - I'll alert Simon Lee on that point.

Lloyds will play ball so don't worry.
