Might sound a silly question but what if you managed to save enough of your allowances in an iva to have a holiday! Would that be allowed? Would probably be very difficult I know but five years without any sort of break must be hard. Has anybody been on holiday during an iva? I suppose the cheap sun holidays could be affordable.

Absolutely - a modest family holiday is essential to maintaining motivation to keep going to work to pay those contributions. Some friends of mine went on the Sun cheapy breaks last year and had a whale of a time. If you have young kids, they are just happy with a bucket and spade - and of course some quality time with Mum and Dad for a change!

I am a year into my IVA and have put aside the flash hotels and villas , trading it all in for a SUN holiday in July , to Somerset .I have a feeling it will be more fun than keeping up appearances of borrowed money in a posh hotel ...!!

If you can manage to save out of your monthly allowances and put enough aside to have a holiday - great no problems. Whether it is a sun holiday or just going into the countryside for a week or so with or without the children is fine and as Melanie says maintains motivation for the hard slog of an IVA.

That is where my friends went Bryn and they absolutely loved it. I think they are booked to go again this year!

If we can manage anything this year, I'm looking at a few days in the Northeast as it's a part of the country I have never been to.

I managed to jet off to Majorca last year with the Family and with any luck will be doing so again this year

I've just had a month away, if i hadn't, i would have ended up very much dead. My friends almost threw me on board that 747 ! And the greatest thing was that it was a gift. It's really given me time to myself and sort my head about alot of things. IVA's are very invasive, need a lot of work, and can at times make you feel you have made some enormous mistake by entering into one, then your monthly contribution is paid over, and you cannot but help feeling good about that. Holidays are very much needed, especially away from this god awful mess of a country we live on just now.

I really hope to go away at least once a year and not for me but for my wife, non of this was her fault, so I intend to work as much overtime as possible so we can afford a better than basic existance. Believe it or not I like work.

Also, I'm lucky that I work away with my business so every year I accrue enough BA miles and Marriott reward points for a couple of free flights and a weeks hotel nights.

Business class to Vegas is definately off the agenda though![:p]

If we are to get away this year it will definitely be in the tent and in this country. Usually keep the tent at home and stay in a cottage.

Nothing wrong with camping in this country as long as it stays dry!!!

We are also lucky that we have friends who live near Swansea and can stay with them for a weekend away.

I have had my fair share of camping in the past and hated it! Even down in the South of France - the mice got into the suitcases and chombled through a lot of our clothes!

I like my creature comforts now.

I'm off to Center Parcs in 3 weeks time!

A little saving on food/clothes etc,a bit of overtime and the sports/hobbies allowance soon mounts up.

Always had to pay for holidays on credit cards before. Nice change to know that I won't be paying for it this time next year!

We go on holiday but only with our tent. Used to be cheap but this year some of the sites want silly money.

centerparcs for us as well again this year week before school holidays so much cheaper. have also gone in december before paid £200 for a family of five. weather doesnt matter as spent most of the time in the free sub tropical pool. cooked most days but do treat oourselves to a meal once or twice with voucher from cafe rouge /tesco clubpoints. fab hols well worth it , not much difference in price to a caravan priced one for this year they wanted over a £1000
