Well well well, I came home yesterday to a missed call. After doing 1471 it was a company I had not heard of ......Interim Justica. After going to Whocallsme and entering their number, lo and behold they are a debt collecting agency. Oh what fun I thought, and I hastely called them back after finding another number other than their 0870 one.
Lovely lady from Liverpool answered,"How did you get this number?" I told her it did not matter, and proceeded to check their address was correct, and their company registration number and phone number. After doing this, I asked to speak with the Managing Director, and she even gave me his name, but I forget it now. Anyway this was declined but I was allowed to be put through to a complaints dept. Yippee I thought getting somewhere now.
I spoke to a lovely lady who told me they had bought MBNA debt £15000.
"OOPS", I said "big mistake my IVA was approved last Monday". I gave her all the details she needed to confirm what I was saying was true and told her to"Have a Good Day".
Just before I hung up, I asked,"out of curiosity how much they had paid for it" I think this was a question too far and the line went dead. I feel brilliant right now.

Must have been a fab feeling sterling. Although I have some sympathy for the genuine staff just doing their job. Some of the things I have read on hear regarding harrassment is just bullying.

In the process of cancelling my DD. So have all this to come.

Debt purchasing companies are remarkably silent about the amount that they pay for debts - I think the general view is around 5p to 10p in the £!

Let's hope they've got the message and leave you alone now Stirling!

They don't like it when you ask awkward questions do they? Mind you, I doubt the call centre staff would know anyway.

Joannal don't worry - you will be.

Melanie - debt purchasing companies are paying anything from 3p to 22p in the pound nowadays.

So what happens then to the buyer as in my case, where they have purchased the debt either on the day or very shortly after my IVA was approved. Do they pass it back to MBNA, as they were basically mis-sold something, or is it just tough and they are bound by the IVA? It cant be much fun buying something valued at £15000 and then finding out its only worth about £3000 give or take a few quid.

Hi Stirling,

No, they don't pass it back as they are well aware of what they are purchasing.

I think it's a case of you win some you lose some for the companies!

Hi
Skippy is right.
They buy blocks of "bad debt" and it is swings and roundabouts for them.
If a company has purchased a bad debt for 10p and they get to vote on a 25p + IVA then I can only see them agreeing to it.
