Do you have debts with your bank that are to be included in your IVA,You IP firm should have told you to open up a new bank account with someone you dont owe money to,and arrnage to get wages paid into that.

Hi
Even if our bank is a creditor your wages will be safe as they can't use them to offset a debt once your IVA is in place.
It sounds as if youwill need to open a new basic acount with a non creditor.

If the account is frozen though, will her wages be able to be paid in and if they are, will she be able to get them out again?

I can't beleive that the bank account bic has is a creditor, the first thing an IP would ensure is that the client open a basic account with a non creditor!

I can't see any other reason why they would have frozen the account though.

Even HSBC, who close accounts of people in IVA's, give you notice that they are going to close the account.

I've not heard of this happening to anyone else.

i think they think i am bankrupt, but noone at nat west branch or on the phone knows why it is blocked, as department that deals is not open. spoke to branch manager and he allowed us to take £200 out of our savings pot, so that was good of him. it seems to much of a coinsidence that my name appeared on the insolvency reguster yesterday and the account is frozen today. i used account last night to buy food luckily. i checked my old lloyds account and they have wiped off details of all our loans etc. i have set up a cashminder as well and ws going to move everything there. i am more concerened about my wage, can they take it. aslo my first payment will not be able to be paid id my wage gets lost in the system

thanks

I've never heard of Nat West doing that before - I take it they were not one of your creditors?

They can't do anything with your wage, you are protected now that you are in your IVA.

They will have to give you your money as they cannot keep it.

You need to speak to the bank on Monday morning, and then, dependent upon what they say, speak to your wages department and also your IP to tell them what has happened.

Roll on Monday and if they don't sort it close the account and open a new one. Presumably they were not a creditor! They probably have got their knickers in a twist. Hope you get it sorted soon.

How awful for you bic and like you say, these things always happen on a weekend! Hopefully, you'll get this sorted out first thing Monday, when are your wages due....can you get your payroll to change your account details Monday?

As for your IVA payment, call your IP and explain the situation, I'm sure everything will be fine.

Good luck and keep us updated xx

i thought pay was next week but it is actually the 20th, i work for the nhs so systens are not good. i hope monday will be enough notice to change, i am actually off work on monday so will drive to payroll department if i have to, or ask for a cheque to be issued so i can pay into coop account. i think i will close the account anyway as they have not even sent me a letter, husbands wage goes in on the last working day so we have changed that alraedy. i am just concerned re mine. the thing is they have blocked all access i cant see what money is in there or what direct debits are due out i hope they wont charge me for bounced dds if account is blocked i will need to ring mel on mon as standing order was going to be set up for the 21st may beed to make it 31st and change account to coop.

sorry for rambling but i am really annyed wuth natwest

I think Nat West have acted appallingly Cath. No way should they freeze your account without prior warning.

Fingers crossed that you manage to sort your payroll out in time.

As Mel is your IP, I am sure she will be understanding about this. She will probably pick up on this thread later.

That's awful and I hope you get it sorted out on Monday Cath.

I seem to remember someone else posting about Natwest doing this ages ago, but that's the only other time.

Cath - phone Natwest and cancel all your DD's. Banks are laws unto themselves eh!!!

Like Jan says, I'm sure Mel will do all she can to help, so try not to worry.

I had the same thing happen, my IP did not advise me to change my bank account as RBS were one of my creditors. About 6 mth into IVA my account was frozen with all my wages in it!!!!!!!
After refusing to leave the branch without my wages RBS paid up what what in my account. I was annoyed I hadn't been told I had to do this and struggled to get another account elsewhere........ Finally I found safehaven at the co-op and havent looked back they are fantastic.
I hope you get sorted Bic good luck
