Hi,
I have a car that I have had on finance with Black Horse for about 20 months on a HP agreement.
On the way home from work today, my car has broken down (3rd time in 6 months) and I have just been told by the mechanic that the Head Gasket has gone.
My IVA is coming up to its 1 year anniversary and I am on a reduced payment scheme due to my partner no longer being in work.
Would I be able to ask the finance company (Black Horse) to subsides the repair or to take back the car?
It is a 04 plate and bought second hand on finance. It has done 37000 miles and the cost to repair will be close to £1000 i would suspect (Which obviously for us IVA users is completely un-payable)
I need a car to work and am really stuck and down about this.
Any advise would be such a big help as Im thinking of ringing the finance company in the morning [:(]

oh no this is not what you need[:(]
I can't advise on what to ask the finance company but it would be worth having a chat with them to see if there is anything they can do.
Also let your IP know to see if they can do anything for you, you never know.
I am not a mechanic but should this happen to a car of that age and mileage?
I hope you get it sorted asap and shop around for some quotes, maybe you could get a part worn part or find a garage to do the repairs cheaper?
Good luck

The car shouldn't be need a Gasket replacement until 60,000 miles.
I have just been reading through the terms and conditions of the finance agreement and looks like they could accept the car back but not sure if I would need to make up the diffrence.
With it being an IVA, I was told that they will not honour the 2.5 year hand back clause - even though i have never missed a payment - so so frustrating and feels like not I am fighting a constant battle at the moment

It maybe asking the main dealer if they can help out if it should last 60k miles. You have only just got over half of that and it must be so frustrating[:(!]

I really hope you can get something sorted very soon,
Don't give up hope, its not what you need at this time of year and with your partners work situation it must seem like everything is stacked against you but try to remian positive and make some phone calls tomorrow.
I would try a rant at the car manufacturer and see if they offer anything.
Do have a chat with your IP also as they may have suggestions

but the main thing to rember is the car does not belong to you it belongs to blackhorse phone and tel them that it has broke down number of times you are not prepared to pay for a car that isnt fit for purpose ask them to contact the garage where bought and organise repair you have the right to do this

I would give trading standards a call and see what advice they can offer. They could probably tell you exactly where you stand.
