I have just spent ages shredding a lot of old paperwork. Things like old credit card statements from before IVA. I know I have to do it to be safe but I would like to see anyone try to get credit in my name LOL

I tend to shred everything but need a cross cut shredder any good bargains out there that anyone knows of?

We don't have a cross cut shredder only a strip shredder. I used to find that the strips took up too much room. Filling bin bags like crazy. Now after shredding I soak it all in a bowl with a small drop of washing up liquid. This makes all the ink run and all the paper stick together like papier mache. A lot cheeper than a new shredder and takes up less space too.

I've actually had this happen to me!
I had a call from HSBC saying that my applicaiton had been refused but they may be able to offer me another product....
The girl on the phone laughed when I said "well, you can try but I never applied for anything in the first place and since I'm in an IVA, I don't think it's going to go through... do you?"
Very funny... but rather scary....

debtdebtdebt, good idea! I will be doing that myself from now on! I have been looking at the price of cross cut shredders and can't find one that is in my budget hence why I asked but perfect idea and will continue with shredder I've got!

My one fear about someone stealing my identity is that they will have more fun being me than I do !!!!!

Before we went into IVA i had my credit card stolen.
I never bothered reporting it to the police because whoever stole it was spending less on it than Mrs Torch.

ID theft is a scary thing as usually they don't use your details until a long time later, it could be yrs!
Banks tell us all to be ID fraud aware and then leave cutomer's delicate and usable details in normal waste.....what about the child benefit mess, and more info on lost data has come out since. I think this is only the tip of the 'missing data' iceburg.....makes you wonder how these fraudsters get your details, from us or the Co's who have our details......
