Oh god i don't know what to do i feel sick,just 10 mins ago my boss called me in and told me the company wasn't doing very well and i would have to go to a 3 day week,and my partner who works here too will have to look at reducing his hours too!! We're in the middle of a proposal and i just don't know what to do.I want to cry but i don't want anyone knowing our situation and just how bad things are.I'm going to ring Melanie's office in my dinner hour but i just can't think straight right now.....

Trees I am soo sorry, just when you thought you had a way. Really must be feeling awful. How cruel life can be sometimes. Please try not to get too upset, you have come this far and will find a way. (I know its easy for me to say).. This really isnt your fault but I think its better now than latter when you had just started to relax in the IVA road.

I hope that there is something that can be done.

To be honest with you something similar happened to me, I wanted to grap the IVA route and the NHS were wanting to lower everyones hours and extra's. I did try desperately to get anohter job but they were full time and with my children, my family kept saying you just wont manage this IVA thing. I felt quite desperate again, I just couldnt cope anymore and let them let me go altogether, since my health was suffering that was the advice of the GP. I dont have any assets so I was just resigned to BR.

Oh how awful, I do hope the situation is sorted very soon, hang in there.

I know it sounds awful at the moment.... but there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

The one thing would say is have you thought about looking at a job in a different company.

A friend of mine was in a similar situation and when the company they worked for had a slowdown they both lost all their overtime and ended up on basic, which just wasn't enough to live on.

If your both working for the same company and the company has a slow period your both on reduced salary. If your in different companies then at least you have a chance of one of you being on normal hours.

As I advised my friend, see if there are any benefits you can apply for AND contact your IP and ask for their advice.

If you don't have a mortgage or have very little equity in your property have you thought about BR?

What a lousy thing to happen and at the worst possible time too.

I imagine that Melanie might advise you to do a DMP (possibly informally) to drip-feed your creditors in the short term whilst the dust settles. Clearly there won't be a permanent solution until you are both back full time, but I wonder whether this is a sign that it's not a good idea for you both to work for the same company, given that if it folds you will both be out of work entirely.

One thing you can be sure of is that Melanie won't abandon you. Good luck.

Hello everyone, thank-you for your kind replies,i can always rely on this site to make me feel better,you were the first people i told this morning before even my other half!
Well i spoke to Angela at Melanie's office and she said she would put our proposals on hold for the minute till we know what we are going to do.
To be honest i don't even want to think about it,i want to go home and go to bed,but i know we have to make some big decisions.Apart from my son's 18th, this week has been c@#p.I've had a doorstop collector and a run-in with the CSA wanting more money from Shaun even though he pays her direct(long,long story!)to which i had another row about my own case that has been with them since 1992 when they started up and have only ever recieved £60!!
A big part of me at this moment in time wants to throw the towel in and go bankrupt but i really want to try an IVA.I don't know, i'm just rambling on,got to try to get some perspective speak soon ,thanx again xxxx

Bankruptcy is a very good solution, If you have no assets or job restrictions then it might be the best way for you to go. Check out www.insolvencey.gov.uk or read other BR's experiences on this forum also have a look at www.bankruptcyadvisoryservice.co.uk

Dont throw in the towel yet, give it a chance, I have to say the loss of my job turned out to be (I think) a sign, I would never have managed full time for 5 years, I was dead on my feet after 5. With such a huge decision you need to take your time and list the pro's and cons of both or a DMP with an eye on an IVA later on.
