hi and welcome.
i would have thought a debit card would be ok still as you can only spend on it if the moneys there, but i'm sure one of the experts on here will know the answer.
do you have your own business?

Hi there. There are accounts which have debit cards attached. There is the coop cashminder, natwest step and thinkbanking who I am with all have debit cards. Not sure about natwest but I think the cashminder has visa electron the thinkbanking has a maestro card. A debit card is ok, just not credit cards or overdrafts unless you have the permission of your IP.

Co-Op are great. The Cashminder account is very basic but that's the whole idea.
You get an Electron card which most places on the high street take, but some places on the internet don't so if you do a fair bit of shopping that way, it's the only place I can see you may have a problem.
Co-Op won't let you have a cheque book though.

Several banks will allow you facilities while in an IVA but the COOP CASHMINDER account is also acceptable while in BR and provides a Visa Electron debit card plus online banking etc.

Hi
You can also get many prepaid cads that work the same as a credit card and are accepted in as many places.
Try the Tuxedo card, you can view my interview with the CEO at

I used to use credit cards all the time for work expenses/hotels etc.
When I was looking at iva's I knew I would not be able to have a credit card so I now have a float of £500 from work which sits in my account for these expenses and work pay it back into my account when i submit my reciepts.
I find this much easier than putting expenses on credit cards as |I know where I am.
Not sure if you are in the same situation but it may be worth asking at work if you are x

Thanks everyone, the problem is that I live in Spain and work in the UK so I am booking flights every week on the internet, the company I work for does not accept cheques any more even, my debit card is with lloydstsb, it is a visa debit though so not sure if I would be allowed to keep it, which puts me in an awkward position as no card, no going to work!!!

Tha account we opened had an automatic £500 overdraft which I cancelled online and sent copy of cancellation to Melanie.

Do you have debts with Lloyds TSB? They weren't one of my creditors and allowed me to keep my account with them during my IVA and BR.

Yes, they would be one of my creditors, so think you´ve answered my question. Arghhh its a viscious circle.
