Hi
My brother is in a lot of debt and I really want him to apply for an IVA. He says he has - but he's lied so many times over the last 10 years I don't believe him. I fear he is ill and addicted to debt. Is there anyway I can get an IVA FOR him?

I really want to help him but he just lies and thinks he's ok - If hiding from your phone and not opening your post is ok - then I guess he is!!!

Any advise would be great.

You cant get an IVA for him it has to be done by him.
Unfortunately untill he can admint hes in trouble, theres not really a lot you can do.
Try getting him to read some of the success stories on the forum, he may then realise that there really is help out there.

There are a number of solutions available for a person who is in debt difficulty and an IVA is one of these.

As Mrs Skint mentions, really your Brother needs to take the first steps towards debt freedom himself. Try to persuade him to contact 2-3 companies (the ones on this site are all legitimate) and discuss his problems further.

Thank you both for your help and advise. I will print off some of the success stories and show him. It's got to the point where I dread his messages as I know it'll involve money. If he can push himself to get help it'll be a massive weight of my mind my sisters and especially my our mum.... Thanks once again.

Just remember, to do an IVA your brother will have to be very strict with his income and budgeting for 5 years... He HAS to want to do it,and be committed! He must do an IVA because he wants to,and not just apply in order to stop his brother nagging!

Some daft person has told my brother that an IVA is a bad thing to have as it's one step away from bankruptcy!!! So this has thrown him back as he believes them - and not his family.

Thank you all for your replies. I'm going to print off everything today and show him he's wrong, the IVA will help and get him back to the brother I had.

Your brother needs to take his own advice directly from a professional if he really does want to sort out his financial difficulties. If he is insolvent, and from your post it sounds that he is, he doesn't have too many choices I am afraid - IVA and bankruptcy being two out of the three that are generally available.
