have got my meeting date on the 10th april and all was going swimmingly, however today i got phonecall from mercers advising me that they would be doing a doorstep collection within the next 7 days. they know about proposal as they have written to me to confirm but have said that unless 'telephoned' directly by somebody at payplan they will do it. this seems awfully quick as i thought they needed to issue a default notice first, in addition it seems pointless as they know about the IVA proposal and meeting date being in next 10 days. i asked more than once if i was being advised that a doorstep collection 'may' happen, or if it will happen and they said WILL. help. can they do this?

PS. also only stopped full payments in January, so its not as if they are on last resort because of time period.

Hi rollercoaster
This seems to be a fairly standard thing that mercers do as a last ditch attempt to get money from you, they thretened me with this but nothing ever happened.
If they were to turn up they cannot enter your home without a court order, but I think this is highly unlikely.
Contact your IP and let them know, although they will have infomed BC no doubt already.
Try not to worry

ironically been answering the phone to them for days as its my husbands and obviously they would not discuss with me. tonight they finally got the hubby and they started on this, i was under the impression that a default notice had to be served before doorstep collection, if this is right, is it harassment to tell me that a collection IS happening?

not as if there gonna get anything anyway but i could do without the hassle. nobody wants a doorstep collection but i have an autistic son and this will send him balistic!!

Its horrible I know, Mercers were the creditor I remember for being so aggresive and nasty and had me in tears after thretening doorstep collection.
I am sure an expert will confirm wether a default notice has to be issued first, but it is highly unlikely they will call as it is an expensive thing to do for them.

It is so unfair for them to bully like this and make you so worried and worried about the effects on your son[:(!]
It makes me very mad that they do this, but hang on for Melanie or Ian or another expert to try and reasure you

thanx emma hun. feel like ive got through most hurdles to be confronted with a company that seem to be trying to beat the clock of the meeting date. got my head round most things but this seems to be bordering on harassments for enjoyments sake, especially as meeting date sooooo close[:(]

I am sure no one will come, but understand the worry they cause by saying they will send someone.
I was petrified and rang my IP's office straight away and was reasurred that it would almost certainly not happen. They were so rude on the phone, I refused to speak to them again and told them I would only communicate in writing with them and told them this if and when they called and then my meeting happened and the iva was approved anyway.
I do remember them as the most rude though[:(]
They are bullies[:(!]

It is harassment, I'm sure there was a thread about this somewhere last month with some advice to contact your IP, and what to do if they did come knocking.

There have been regular posts on Mercers aggresive tactics since I have been reading the forum - the rogues[:(!]

I was threatened with this as well ... and nothing happened ... should it, then just don't answer the door to anyone who you have not invited on to your property. Am I correct in thinking that there are only two categories of people who can venture on to your property (including the garden and your front door) the postman and the milkman?
I never even ventured into talking to my creditors whilst my IVA was going through as I soon realised that it was a waste of time. I had all my calls diverted to my mobile and didn't answer any call I didn't know the source of the number of.

I had Barclaycard as a creditor and waiting for my IVA meeting, Mercers badgered me daily on behalf of Barclaycard. When they threatened me with doorstep collectors I posted on forum and was reassured that they very rarely if ever turn up. Hang in there and remember you don't have to let them in if they did turn up, but I doubt they will

oh no how awful sjw, it would have upset me too, maybe I was lucky that they never turned up or at least they never did when I was at home. You've got good advice at least of what to say to them and it seems very sensible. hope you're ok now.
