I recently entered into an IVA which was OK untill I relocated due to work and as such required to change my service providers. I called BT who carried out a credit check and basically told me that they cannot provide me with a standard phone line capable of getting Broadband services. All they could offer was a prepaid service and a modem dial up connection. Is this right? are there ways that I can go around this as I do need the high speed internet for work reasons at home. Please advice as I'm pretty distressed.. what next.. Gas/Electric companies too?

Hi kahir and welcome to the forum
BT do have a fairly rigid policy when it comes to credit checking - do you have any family members who might be able to help out. Sometimes you can put a rental deposit down by way of security, so that might be worth looking into.

Hi Melanie, thanks for your response to my query. How do I get about proposing this to BT? I do have a friend sharing the house with me and I might consider asking that he takes the phone line under his name. This is quite a strange policy as I have never defaulted on any of my services payments. My IVA is purely based on some loans I took out during University years and I lost my job well paid job a year ago which presented me with payment difficulties. Will this be the same for gas and electric suppliers? Thanks in advance for your favourable response.

You will need to talk directly to the utility companies in this regard.
