Hello, I am being threatened by a Utility company with disconnection of my energy supply. Would an IVA stop this as I understand they could no longer harass me for the arrears but I thought perhaps they may disconnect anyway to avoid future difficulties?
Many thanks

can't answer that one for you at the mo, until an iva is started i don't really know what they can do to you, possibly the worst outcome is they put a meter in and take the arrears from that,i know thats what they do when you include utilities in a BR, if you have little children it won't look good on them cutting off your supply, have you tried in the mean time to come to some sort of arrangement with them?

Hi Cl and welcome to the forum
Once an IVA is in place, the utility company cannot disconnect you for arrears. In the meantime I suggest you send them at least a token payment as a gesture of goodwill. This is a priority payment, and will not be treated as a preference.

Hi Cl_
This does not sound pleasant at all. Just a thought have you thought of asking the utility companys if they could install a card meter for you that way you can never get behind with them because you have to pay straight away for what you use. Then once that is done you could try and sort the arrears out with them.
Good luck in sorting this out
