Hi Mel,
There are some high steet banks that will allow you to have a basic account if you are in an IVA, as long as it is not with your creditor.
I currently use Barclays basic account
Alot of people op to use the co-op as they have an elctron card.
(I apologise for my keyboards poor spelling and grammar)

I found First Direct very reasonable to deal with when I hit trouble. They did close my account and advised me to open another one and I went to NatWest and asked for their basic account. They persuaded me to try their advantage gold (no iva, defaults too early) which I ran for 3 months but at 12 quid a month I was not getting the benefit so I downgraded to a basic step account.
Reading on here NatWest are hit and miss with bankruptcy and iva customers but I have always found them ok. Their account comes with a maestro debit card

When you say your IVA is finished, do you mean it is completed and you have got your completion document ? If so First Direct (part of HSBC) may be able to look again at retaining your account but only if you fully disclose that the IVA is completed - particularly if, as you say, they were aware of you being in an IVA in the first place. Even then, they may refuse you though so be prepared. If you are still in an IVA I can see them wanting to fully close the account. Whilst the overdraft is small and presumably paid off now it could be construed as "obtaining credit" which is a big no-no inside an IVA even if it is done as a genuine mistake. As I say be prepared to move accounts in any case - whether your IVA is completed or not.

Andy2 is correct; whilst you are in an IVA you cannot obtain credit of any kind. I think the way forward is to contact another lender and open a new bank account.
You can try any of the banks mentioned as well as the following:
-Nationwide Flex account
-Abbey Card Cash account
Hope this information is of use

I've heard the yorkshire bank have a basic account called readycash and comes with a maestro debit card as well as the usual online access. You would have to be lucky enough to have a branch nearby as you can only get one by applying at a branch. I think they are linked to clydesdale bank and I think they may offer the same account if you have that branch nearby. I would recommend you open a basic account asap so you can have some contingency/time in the event first direct close your account.

Hello Mel and welcome
I walked into the co-op and opened a cashminder accout with them. I was totally honest about my debts and they treated me respect and were very kind. The account comes with a visa electron, internet banking and you can withdraw from any link machine.
Good luck
LILY
can it be, I am forever loved and you are watching over from above, isnt faith believing all power is not seen?

From the many reports of First Direct closing accounts left right and centre I would urge you to look at taking your money / business elsewhere as First Direct / HSBC don't deserve it.
Best Regards

Hi Mel
Try Royal Bank of Scotland - go into your branch if you have one close by and open a Key Account. They are very good and have been very considerate to those in an IVA.
