I have unsecured debts of about 30k, i am renting privately at the moment, i'm considering an IVA, will this affect my chances of renting another property?

Hi
An IVA will impact your credit rating and may cause you a problem if you rent via a letting agency as they credit check. You can get round this by being upfront with the agent, having a larger deposit,a guarantor or by renting from private landlords[newspaper ads etc]

Hi Vickir,

Renting another property in an IVA is possible but can prove to be a little difficult as letting agents will more than likely do a credit check where the IVA will appear.

Andy makes some good suggestions of avoiding this, if you are renting with friends you could also ask them to be on the lease instead of you, however you will need to check if sub-letting is allowed.
