Could you tell me of any banks I can use while I am in an IVA for basic bank accounts.

Hi Terry
Barclays and Abbey are two that spring to mind. Steer clear of First Direct and HSBC though as their policy is to say no at the moment. Give Lloyds a try as well, hope that helps

Three other good ones to try
Co Op Gives you a Visa electron with internet and means to make standing orders
Halifax Easy Cas again a Visa Electron card
Basic Nationwide Flex Account and gives you interest
For a Mastercard do try Cash Plus but you have to pay an initial fee of £10 and a monthly charge of £4.95. This is very good as it gives you the opportunity of using a credit card. Should point out it has to be front loaded.
Another bit of advice presently the banks are being cautious so do make sure that you have excess funds when you provide details of your income and expenditure. ie write it all down before applying.
These accounts are not credit scored!

If you are only going to use the pre-paid card occasionally you can ask the provider to change the tariff so that you pay a set fee (£1 I think) when you use it, rather than paying a monthly fee.
Virgin are also doing a pre-paid card which costs £9.95 with no monthly fee - you pay 2.95% of your total spend each time you use it, and you are entitled to the usual Virgin discounts.
Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

I logged into to my Lloyds account today and they are changing the way they operate accounts, I think the basic accounts will be charging soon. It might be better for people in or going for IVA's and easier to get basic facilities. A sign of things to come?

Their is another card from extreme.com who only charge 75P (i think) when the card is loaded at the post office. It works out cheaper if you load it weekly, from memory the limit is 500 pounds per load. (as if).

Good evening,
You could try Halifax or Natwest.
Kind regards,
Julia

I walked in to the branch told them i was in an iva, they said no problem, i have to have a basic account, with direct debits and standing orders, cash card, the only thing that i cant do is to make money out over the counter, i also have internet banking and best of all no charges
no matter how bad money gets, theirs stll alot more important things in life
