Well, I received my first IVA discrimination (if you can call it that) today.

I completed online a quote request for public liability insurance. There was a question asking have you even been bankrupt/insolvest so I answered yes. Following a couple of phone calls with the company and they, having spoken to their underwriters, they said that they were unable to quote me until I had made 12 months payments.

How rediculous, and all for the grand annual premuim of £37.50.

What their rationale behind this is, I can't even begin to fathom. I could default after 12 months, what difference would it make to the insurer, or maybe they think I am going to make a fake claim against myself.

I'm sure my creditors would be really happy if I couldn't work because I couldn't get any insurance.

Well, thankfully there is another insurer who only ask about bankruptsy on their form so I can answer that honestly and renew my insurance.

Rant over lol!

I am just about to try and get a better quote on my home insurance renewal so we'll see how that one goes!

Ooh Cath - who was the company that only ask about Bankruptcy only as I will have to renew my business insurance soon and I hadn't even thought of that affecting the insurance.

They are called Towergate. The application form I have is from one of their intermediaries but I would imagine the questions would be the same on any of their application forms, one can but try and I know now what to avoid!

I've stayed with the same contents and buildings insurer this year as price was competitive, however currently sourcing car insurance quotes any ideas of who I should go with always welcome

I did mine on compare the market and it was £90 cheaper for the same cover. Never heard of the intermediary but the policy is with AXA who are a well known provider, so I'm safe with that.

I was a bit worried about a credit check but all went through fine.

I did my car insurance last year on compare the market too and the same policy came out cheaper, so I phoned the broker and they matched it. I'll be doing the same this year when it's up for renewal.

Good luck x

Is there not normally a question asking if you have ever had insurance refused?? Would you now have to say yes to that?? I know that NFU mutual refused my wife horse insurance stating that as an insolvant person she was more likely to commit fraud!!! I cant post on here what she said to the woman on the phone but it was rather blue!!!

And I wouldn't blame her Paul!

I do get fed up of people being castigated because they have had the misfortune of getting into debt, having problems and then trying to do the decent thing!

Don't get me started!

Having worked in insurance (although many years ago) my take on being declined insurance is that if you are, or heve been, insolvent you may be more tempted to make a fraudulent claim to get money.
