Can I instigate an IVA via my local Independent Financial Adviser, whom I am about to contact for initial advice regarding consolidation of my debts.

Hi rob v and welcome to the forum
Not unless he is a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner, which I feel is unlikely!

Thanks for that reply, Melanie.
Have spoken to my IFA who feels that I have adequate equity on my property to cover my debts, thus avoiding the need for an IVA and the subsequent effect on my credit rating, so I have agreed to explore this further.
I can see how this may be a better alternative as my IFA will also approach my creditors for a suitable settlement figure.
Regards,
Robert.

Good luck - if you are not insolvent an IVA is irrelevant in the first place.
