Hello. My partner is looking for another job, and would ideally like to move overseas. I can't imagine not going with him, but i am only 6 months into an IVA. I have a fairly well paid job, but he is still the breadwinner. What would happen if I gave up my job to go with him, and could not get a job with the same salary. I really do want to go with him, and feel so bad for having all this debt that might jeapordise mine and and his future. Any advise?

Thankyou [V]

If your salary were reduced as a result of a relocation, then this would affect your disposable income and put the future of the IVA into jeopardy. When, and if, the time arises, you will need to discuss the implications of your decision with your Supervisor, and maybe have to decide that bankruptcy proceedings represent a better way forward.

Thankyou. Would being bankrupt affect being able to live abroad?

No - this is very unlikely.

Hi Fiona,

It is possible for you to still remain in an IVA whilst being abroad, but if your disposable income is going to dramatically reduce then this is not ideal.

Contact your I.P once you have made a decision, they will be able to advise further. You may find that bankruptcy is more defined as it is possible that after 12months you will be discharged etc.
