My mum in law has been running an IVA for four years. Last month Natwest advised her they were closing her personal bank account which she has had all the time and will not let her reopen a personal account - are they allowed to do this when the IVA has been running so long ?
Thanks

Hi
Yes they are I,m afraid.
It seems that several banks,First Direct,HSBC and now Natwest are closing accounts of people in an IVA.
There are many other banks that will allow a basic account and a good starting place is the Cooperative bank.

Hi chris.c and welcome to the forum,
Unfortunately some banks are behaving that way towards people in an IVA but you can try to open a basic bank account with Think Banking, Abbey or Nationwide.

Ultimately the bank does have the right to do this I'm afraid. She will need to open another bank account so be sure to let her know the ones Andy mentions above so she can avoid them.

Hi
It may be a branch decision or it could be that there are other factors in Chris,s mother in laws case
