hi all
I have been in an IVA for nearly a year now 7 months ago my wife found out she was expecting twins we knew this would have a serious impact on our finances we wanted to keep up with our iva and we worked out away to do this by re-mortgaging just enough to pay off our present mortgage and our car HP so freeing up money so we could maintain our iva two days before I had booked time off work to talk to my IP my wife gave birth to the twins 2 months early. When I did speak to the named contact person I found she spoke to me in a very snotty manner and was very condercending and one would think by listening to her that we should have been sterilised at the beginning of the iva.Because the twins had come early and are being kept in intensive care unit of our local hospital, I explained that we were having to make daily trips to the hospital to be with our children and would it be possible to pay a reduced amount for one month to help with our unexpected travel expenses. She was very un-entusiastic about this to say the least. She wanted to know why we had not informed her immediately about my wifes pregnacy. Is this normal practice for IP's?
I explain that we wanted to remortgage to get a better rate and there by free up more money to maintain the IVA.On the 31st of july we recieved a letter saying that if we suspend and then re-instate our direct debit to them we could pay back 10% extra a month to catch up, great I thought except our iva goes out on the first of the month not much help there. The letter went on to demand that we tell our IP when and if my wife would return to work? At present our concern is for the health of the boys we will not know the answer to his question untill we know answer to whether our boys are going to be fit and healthy or require a lot of hospital care,he went on to say he did not feel we would be able to honour our iva and he was not happy with the idea of us re-mortgaging and had we considered an intrest only mortgage in the short term.
The mortgage we have found is fixed at a resonably rate and would finish it's tie in period about 4 months before the end of our iva.I must phone our IP tomorrow My wife and I feel we have been dealt with rarther shodderly by our IP and would like to know if we have any governing body we can talk to about our treatment by our IP? and would like to know if this sort of behaviour is standard practice or am I being overly sensitive?
