Has anybody claimed on their pet insurance after having to call the vet out? My mum's dog was ill at the beginning of the week and she took her to the emergency vet on Sunday but had to call the vet out on Monday as the dog was worse and there was no one to take them to the surgery.

Thankfully the dog is now ok - she had a blockage that clear itself both ways while she was at the vets if you know what I mean! - but I'm worried that the insurance company willsay they aren't paying as the call out wasn't necessary. The bill is over £600 as she was kept in for the night so my mum will struggle if they won't pay.

You may find that the cost of the emergency call out wont be covered, but the rest of the bill will.

Personally, I think the call out was necessary as the dog was obviously really suffering from reading your email.

I do hope they cough up - they should do. It's what you pay your premiums for after all.

I have visions of the blockage being cured!!!!!! Thankfully I'm not eating at the moment!!

I hope so - Mum can't drive any more and there's no way I would have been able to lift Blaze as she's a big dog. I do worry they'll say it wasn't though.

It's not a pleasant thought is it?!?! I'm just glad she was at the vets when it happened!!!

She was supposed to stay in until Wednesday but after she ripped out two drips and tried to get the lampshade collar off I think they wanted to get rid of her!

I remember when Taz was a pup he used to eat socks whole, and was en route to the vet to be opened up to remove the latest socks which had been in him for 5 days and got sick in the car and there it was,one of sons hulk socks!!! Told son we could wash it but he said not to bother and just bin it!!

Hope Blaze is on the mend.

They eat anything don't they! We had an Old English Sheepdog when I was little and he used to eat anything - socks, handkerchiefs and I'm sure he used to eat my Barbie clothes that went missing!

I think she's on the mend, although I've now got to train my mother not to feed her cake all the time...

Our Great Dane ate a tea towel once!! The first lurcher we had ate a whole (frozen!) leg of lamb the night we got her home!! We tend to move food now, especially as Suzie is a food thief and can reach the work surface in the kitchen - the others can't thankfully!!!

Our local vet removed 2kg of pebbles from a retriever once, and an old cassette tape which the owner swore wasnt hers(is was Bros!!),and a pair of skimpy pants, which the owner blushingly confirmed as hers!!!

As an update to this, Sainsburys paid out for everything except the emergency call out. Luckily my mum got most of the money back so she can manage.

I had a funny feeling the emergency call out wouldnt be paid for because we had an issue with petplan over this.

Glad things are better.

It's a shame they don't look at circumstances - my mum is elderly and can't drive any more and the dog was very poorly.

Unfortunately she's under the weather again now so I don't know what'll happen next.

That is good news Skippy, sometimes a bit of common sense seems to be missing from some people!

The only thing is if they were to cover transport costs in claims they would just put up your premium. There is always far too much small print in insurance paperwork, mostly the very important bits that you you like to see it BOLD!!!
