Taken from todays Scotsman "DAVID Cameron will today order Britons to batten down the hatches and get ready for battle by paying off debts.

In a doom-laden address to the Tory Party Conference, the Prime Minister is set to deliver a speech which will make Private Fraser from Dad's Army look like an optimist.

He will tell the country to prepare for the long haul to recovery - by admitting that Britain has faced "no normal recession".

Cameron is expected to "tell the truth about the overall economic situation" and warn us to "pay off the credit cards and the store card bills".

You have to laugh.......i wish it was that easy! Looks like IVA's & BR's will become the norm in the near future.
I came into this world with nothing and still have most of it left!

I think things will be getting worse. Just hearing people at work talking about credit cards and overdrafts takes me back to the bad old days. I've told no-one at work about our IVA but if things did get to that point for anyone of my friends, I'd definatley help them find this forum without giving the game away!

I'm glad I've none now and can only afford what I can afford, being in this IVA has taught me a very valuable lesson. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

me too Lesley, what makes me laugh though is that it was ok for the banks not to pay off their debts and be bailed out but the rest of the working population of this country who are struggling to make ends meet have now been told back to pay back every penny what they owe and sharpish!, talk of double standards

It makes sense though at the moment anyway.. With interest rates for savings so low, what's the point in not paying down any debt you have?

Better to be paying off that 16%+ credit card than earning 2% (if you're lucky) on savings.

It's tough for everyone.. I see another £75bn is being "pumped into the economy". We all know where 99% of that is gonna end up....

I kept our IVA quiet at work until I had two staff members come and see me individually completely stressed out and upset - when talking to them and offering support it was clear that they had huge debt issues - i landed up spilling the beans to them about us and then supported them through the process of an IVA and Bankruptcy - they are so much happier now that they have moved forwards in their debt issues and are able to talk to me when things are tough !
