I would only go for diesel if I did a lot of miles as the cost of a diesel car is generally higher than a petrol and for the driving I do it would take forever to get that money back. I wouldn't want a lpg car for the reasons Jan mentions, and also the fact that there aren't many petrol stations in this area that sell it.

Thanks for the kind words all.
I'm thinking of a diesel when i change my car next time, toyota yaris has caught my eye.
I understand they are a bit more expensive to maintain?.
I have a second job working in a taxi control room, a few of the owners have converted to lpg, fine around town but they cant do the lucrative airport runs as they cant get much luggage in the boot.
Also, call me a cynical old torch, but, once enough people have converted to lpg i have a sneaking suspicion that the government will catch on and start lumping duty on.

I certainly won't be converting - need the boot space for one thing and I do agree that the government may well up the duty.

It's rather expensive to convert as well. We used to have a Honda CRV and when we enquired about conversion it would have cost us £1200 and that was way back in 2005. With the Skoda we were quoted the same price initially but then told that with the engine we have it couldn't be done so that was the end of that!!

I had an LPG car a while back. Luckily I have a 24 hour fill point nearby. However, I don't think I'd bother again because of the loss of boot space and, as OT mentions, the govt. will start upping the duty. In fact, I was paying 47p per litre a couple of years ago -- now it's well over that !

Also you have to keep the engine in tip top condition as LPG is not as forgiving as other fuels.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
