I think to drip feed it can be a good solution.

I did this with my daughter, I told her someone else was looking after our money for a while and things for all of us would change. She was 13/14. What I didn't realise was she then worried that Melanie was a loan shark and we were in deep trouble! No idea how her imagination worked, which is when I sat down showed her the forum, showed her the paperwork and she now knows the basics about IVA's and we do often discuss it!

In the end it will work out I'm sure. xx

Hi,

My daughter knows and it is heartbreaking for me because I have always been the one to help her out financially when she needed it. She has a young son and I am devastated that I can't buy him things. She has been great though and she was the one that pushed me into enquiring about an IVA. Go for it and tell your Nan. You may be pleasantly surprised at her reaction!
Take what life throws at you and hold your head up high. You're only human after all!!!

Ha ha Lesley - did you tell Mel that your daughter thought she was a loan shark? Seriously though, it is so difficult to know what/how much to tell them. I still havn't told any of our children but I have a feeling that I will have to one day soon before they think I'm a complete monster x

Thankfully all of ours know now and it is often discussed. It does help when you can tell someone outside of the forum.

You do need support I agree. The funny thing is it's only the youngest daugther I've told. The others ranging in age from 29 down to 25 never told but the 18 year old knows it all and has almost from the beginning. I'm guessing I told her as it would affect her more. When it's finished she's getting a months payment to do with as she wants and she told me NO if I want to buy her something lasting like a piece of jewellery that's up to me but she doesn't want to waste money.

I do think this IVA has taught her a few things about finances that will stay with her throughout life. x
