Our immediate family know of our situation by the inlaws have no ide and never will do as they would kill the wife!!

I can only suggest that you come clean - I'm sure that she will be supportive.

Your Dad has been great is there any way he could give you advise on how to approach your Nan (assuming it's same side of family).

It won't be easy but most of the time we think they won't be sympathetic but they are. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

The only family member that knows is my mum and she has been my rock when money is tight, she is always their to give my girls a treat when they need it. None of my friends know as they wouldn't understand but it is hard making excuses why I cannot go out with them. Good luck with your Nan I think she will understand.

I'm sure your Nan will be ok with the situation and you can always repay the remainder of the debt after your iva is completed.

Good luck x

A difficult one ... in our experience we did not owe them any money but we told our our parents as soon as we had signed the IVA proposal paperwork..my mum was angry and shocked at the level of debt but then became supportive and offered us help..albeit it she then was watching us like a hawk to check we didn't step out of line...we did not however tell my grandmother - she really wouldn't understand...when we moved out of our mortgaged house into rented we avoided the subject where we could - it must be a generation thing as she would never have understood and certainly would not have been supportive.

You never they may be supportive and offer to help further to resolve the situation - bite the bullett and see what happens...I hope it isn't too bad.

Let us know how you get on.

Liz you have hit the nail on the head with the generation thing. Not that we have told them but I know my parents would understand more than my grandparents would.

You could be right Paul - my two adult kids have money problems but they did tell us and they, and my younger daughter, know of the IVA.

I could never tell my brother though (he is a lot older than me) and as for the in-laws they'd kill us both!!! They'd never understand.
