Totally agree with Tina and to be truthful maybe a lot more people are in the same boat and just won't admit to it. Good for you dd you have faced your debt problems and are now trying to sort them out, age is but a number too, my life has certainly turned around since having embarked on my IVA journey, i have met someone whom i love very much, doesn't judge me and never has, we'll be coming up to 4 years since our relationship started when i finish my IVA and i can't wait for September as we shall then be making moves for me to move in and take the relationship to the next level. Good luck with your IVA and don't worry about how old you'll be, i'm nearly 53 and life has certainly begun again with much more positive outlook. xx
Om shanti, namesté, good luck to all who are embarking on the IVA journey, it isn't always an easy one but the outcome is the best.

IVA COMPLETED August 2012, received Completion certificate 18.4.13.

I must admit that I was embarrassed at first but so surprised by how good people were with me, everyone I told knew someone in the same boat and that made me feel much better. I also dreaded telling work, as it could have meant losing my job (because of the type of work I do) but they were great. In fact, if I had gone BR, I would have lost my job but by going the IVA route work said it showed that I was taking control of the situation and not looking for an easy way out, as i was signing up to pay more of debt back and as a result of that and my good work generally, I was the type of person they wanted at the company. That was a big boost too.

Work have no idea of my situation and there is no way I will tell them.

Dont feel too decrepit as yet, but, i do wish we had known about an iva 10 years ago instead of struggling for years.

Ditze don't worry -We're all here for you x- I haven't told anybody- my best friend would be suportive, but is a worrier and would make a big deal of questioning everything I bought "can you afford that?" and my brother would never understand how I've got in a mess as he has always been very savvy with money and I've not :(
Have no regrets, the future is ours!

I suppose being the ahem, 'more mature', iva'er has its advantages.
Less chance of history repeating itself, we wont be looking for a mortgage or major expenditure, therefore, no big rush for credit.

Hi Ditzydoodle, there are some nice comments there - forgot who was looking for a toyboy but here is 40 something lol.
I'm more like Jan and would rather just manage the situation without telling anyone, just not sure if people understand or how they would react etc but thats just me. Again, no way I would tell work or friends but my wife is totally opposite and although she told me she didnt tell anyone, I now know she has told her best friend. We get visits from her friend quite often (3 or 4 times a week) and she and her husband are in a far worse financial situation than we ever were before we decided to tackle our problem. Can you believe we actually lend her money to get by so she has fuel to go here and there and to get to weekend car boots so she can sell things to get money for food the following week and then she pays us back at the end of the month, then it starts again. I sometimes feel like I am supporting 2 families. I do wish I could talk to someone about these things at times though, along with all the other stresses in life it can catch up with you and become too much at times, thats the benefits of this site. All the best.

Hi Gareth, its me that wants the toyboy lol.
I have only told a couple of close friends but i definately would not tell work or anyone at work !! lesson learnt however with that one particular "friend" !! I think its lovely that you lend your friends money to see them through the month, especially when you are living on a tight budget, that really is a good friend.

Sorry to hijack the thread ditz .... Gareth, if you want to exchange email addresses so you have another person to have a moan with I am sure Jan can arrange this. Or, if you are on Facebook, use the message facility (we don't "do debt" on the actual facebook pages).
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

Too right we don't!!! We are all just friends on there and happy to add you as a friend if you like.

Just say yes and I'll email you with my details on there. You're not allowed to put email details on the forum.
